“Hello” in a tiny voice, then a whisper, then a shout that surprises even the one who shouted. Get all three in one video call.
Tatako is hiring a Voice Director to cast and direct the voices of our series and songs. An episode has very little talking, so every line counts: a warm, dry narrator, a few short phrases and plenty of small reactions. This is project work, booked session by session with the Series Director.
About Tatako
Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.
The role
- Remote project work, open to candidates anywhere in the world
- Fluent English
- An agreement signed before you start: your work is made for Tatako, Inc. and its rights go to the company in writing
By the end of your first project, the cast is chosen, a full episode is recorded, and each character has a one-page voice guide that any actor in any language can follow.
What you will do
- Cast each character by ear: a pitch, pace and personality so distinct that a child can tell who is talking with eyes closed.
- Direct actors in short remote sessions, and get the small reactions a scene lives on: sighs, gasps, a tiny “oh”.
- Write a voice guide for each character, and hold it across episodes, songs and languages.
- Find the right reading for a word a child is about to copy: clear, unhurried and never shouted.
- Cast grown-ups in every part, even the smallest. We do not record children.
- Steer clear of imitation: no voice that sounds like a known actor or a famous character.
- Hand takes to the sound engineer with selects marked, and log who recorded what and when.
What you bring
- 4+ years directing voice for animation, games or dubbing.
- Casting instinct, and a network of working voice actors in more than one language.
- Remote session skill: you can run a clean recording with an actor in a home booth on another continent.
- A patient, warm way with actors: you get a fresh take without wearing anyone out.
- An ear for clear speech: pronunciation, stress and what a small child can copy.
- Comic timing in very few words.
Bonus points
- You have worked as a voice actor yourself.
- You have directed dubbing in a language other than English.
Why you will love it
- A cast that says little and means a lot, which makes every take matter.
- You decide how these characters sound, for as long as they exist.
- The rare session where “Ooo” is a complete line of dialogue.
