The wide shot holds, the word lands in near silence, and a child whispers it back. You trusted that pause when everyone wanted a cut.
Tatako is hiring its first Video Editor to give our series and songs their calm, funny rhythm. You cut the long version, the vertical shorts and the longer compilations, and you are the last pair of eyes before a video reaches a family.
About Tatako
Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.
The role
- Remote and full-time, open to candidates anywhere in the world
- Fluent English
- You report directly to the founders
By day 90, the studio shares a project template anyone can open, an episode and its shorts are cut to one standard, and nothing leaves without passing your final checklist.
What you will do
- Cut episodes from boards, voices and shots, protecting the pauses that give a child time to answer.
- Cut song videos on the beat, with the word that matters shown large and clear in the picture.
- Recut each episode into vertical shorts that stand on their own: one joke, a clean start and end, faces framed and no head lost at the edge.
- Assemble longer compilations that play straight through, with no title cards in the middle and the strongest episode placed where a family will find it.
- Run the final checks on every export: flashes, loudness, captions and the small Tatako mark in its place.
- Prepare each picture for other languages, so dubbed versions drop in without a recut.
- Keep projects, versions and masters in order, with a date on every file.
What you bring
- 4+ years editing animation, children’s video or short films.
- Fast, confident work in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Avid.
- An ear for rhythm: you cut to music and speech by feel, then check the frames.
- Enough color and sound to hand over a clean timeline: levels that match, and felt that stays the same color from shot to shot.
- Platform know-how: wide and vertical deliverables, safe zones, captions and export settings.
- Judgment about length: you know the moment a joke is over.
Bonus points
- You have edited a show that runs on very little dialogue.
- You have managed dubbed versions of the same film.
Why you will love it
- A rare brief: nobody here asks for more cuts per minute.
- Your pauses are where a child gets to speak.
- A cast with perfect continuity, unless an arm has gone missing again.
