A phone on a kitchen counter, water running, a pan on the stove, and “hello” still comes through clear. That mix is yours.

Tatako is hiring a Sound Engineer to make our series and songs sound clean and warm on the speakers families really use. You clean the voices, mix episodes and songs, and blend in the foley that comes from the Sound Designer. This is project work, booked episode by episode with the Music Producer.

About Tatako

Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.

The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.

We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.

The role

  • Remote project work, open to candidates anywhere in the world
  • Fluent English
  • An agreement signed before you start: your work is made for Tatako, Inc. and its rights go to the company in writing

By the end of your first project, an episode has a final mix and a clean set of stems, and the studio has a mix template that every later episode can start from.

What you will do

  • Mix each episode with speech well above the music, the main word close to silence and no sudden hits that startle a small listener.
  • Bring the Sound Designer’s foley into the mix, so felt footsteps and soft bubbles stay small and never cover a word.
  • Edit and clean voice takes, and match rooms from actors recording in different countries.
  • Mix and master songs, and deliver each one with and without vocals.
  • Hit the loudness targets for every platform, then check the mix on a phone, a tablet and cheap earbuds.
  • Prepare stems for dubbing, with music and effects apart from speech, so new languages drop straight in.
  • Keep sessions named, archived and ready to reopen months later.

What you bring

  • 4+ years mixing for animation, film, television or music, with credits to show.
  • Expert Pro Tools or Reaper, plus iZotope RX or similar for dialogue repair.
  • Clear knowledge of loudness standards and true peak limits across streaming platforms.
  • Dialogue instincts: you hear a clipped consonant before anyone else, and you know how far a repair can go.
  • A monitoring setup you trust, and ears that notice what small speakers do to a mix.
  • Original sound libraries: your own recordings, or sources you can document.

Bonus points

  • You have mixed for children, where gentle dynamics matter more than impact.
  • You have delivered dubbing stems or music and effects mixes.

Why you will love it

  • Quiet is the point here: your best work may be the silence around one word.
  • A new series with no old mix to inherit, so the template is yours to set.
  • Mixes that have to work in real kitchens, cars and bedrooms, on whatever speaker a family owns.
