Does the rock ever answer? Why seven and never six? Every new script asks, and the answer sits in the bible you keep.
Tatako is hiring its first Showrunner to keep our series one story, however many hands it passes through. The Children’s Series Writer writes the scripts and the Series Director stages them, while you hold the whole: the series bible, the shape of each season and the continuity between episodes.
About Tatako
Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.
The role
- Remote and full-time, open to candidates anywhere in the world
- Fluent English
- You report directly to the founders
By day 90, the bible is the one place everyone checks, a season has its shape on a single page, and no script reaches the boards before you have read it.
What you will do
- Keep the series bible current: who everyone is, how their world works, what each friend knows and what they would never do.
- Shape each season with the writer: which stories come early, where a running joke returns and how the world slowly grows.
- Edit every script before it goes to boards, and send it back with one clear note when it breaks a rule of the world.
- Watch continuity across episodes, songs, shorts and language versions: colors, habits, catchphrases and the small promises a story makes to a child.
- Decide what changes when the series grows: a new friend, a new place, a new habit, and who on the team needs to know.
- Keep the series and the app telling one story, so a child who meets the octopus in a lesson knows him on screen.
- Run a short weekly story meeting with the writer, the director and the producer, with decisions on paper by the end of the call.
What you bring
- 6+ years as a showrunner, head writer or story editor on animated or children’s series, with credits to show.
- A story editor’s memory: you catch the contradiction on page two and remember which episode it comes from.
- Writing of your own: when a script is stuck, you can show what you mean in a few lines.
- Respect for the youngest viewers: they notice every broken rule, and they want the world to be the same tomorrow.
- An editor’s manners: your notes protect the writer’s voice instead of replacing it.
- Order: dated versions, one source of truth and a bible a new artist can read in an evening.
Bonus points
- You have run a series with very little dialogue.
- You have carried a series into other languages and kept its rules intact.
Why you will love it
- A series at its very start, so the rules you write down are the ones everyone builds on.
- A cast small enough to know by heart, in a world worth keeping straight.
- The only job where “he always loses count at seven” is a rule you enforce.
