The track needs a ukulele with a smile in it and a clarinet that can shrug. If you can play a shrug, write to us.
Tatako is hiring Session Musicians to play real instruments on our songs and series music. You record from your own room, booked track by track by the Music Producer, and your part is what makes a small song feel alive. Songs are released under the Tatako name.
About Tatako
Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.
The role
- Remote project work from your own recording setup, open to candidates anywhere in the world
- Working English
- An agreement signed before you start: your work is made for Tatako, Inc. and its rights go to the company in writing
By the end of your first booking, your part sits on a finished track, the producer knows your sound, and the song feels like real people played it.
What you will do
- Record parts from a chart, a demo or a short brief, and send clean takes on the agreed date.
- Play with a light touch: this music sits under small voices and leaves space for a single word.
- Offer a few versions of a part, from plain to playful, so the producer can choose.
- Deliver dry WAV files at the sample rate in the brief, named the way the session asks.
- Keep it your own: original playing, with no loops or samples from other records.
- Stay in tune and in time on small acoustic instruments, which hide nothing.
- Join a short video session when the producer wants to try an idea live, and bring your own ideas for the part.
What you bring
- 3+ years as a working session or stage musician, with recordings to share.
- One or more of these: ukulele, acoustic guitar, upright bass, clarinet, flute, accordion, glockenspiel, piano, hand percussion.
- A home setup that records clean: a good microphone, an interface and a quiet room.
- Chart reading, or a quick ear that gets you to the same place.
- A warm, musical tone, and the taste to play less when a song asks for it.
- Reliability: files arrive when you said they would.
Bonus points
- You sing harmony as well as you play.
- You have played for children, in a classroom, a theater or a family concert.
Why you will love it
- Real instruments on real tracks, played by people who love them.
- Short sessions from home, around the rest of your musical life.
- Very honest listeners, who will dance immediately or not at all.
