Product Analyst
A family tries a lesson over breakfast and is back for another at bedtime. Knowing why is your job.
Tatako is hiring its first Product Analyst to map the path from a family’s first lesson to a weekly habit. Funnels, retention, A/B tests, word-level progress and the dashboards behind every product call are yours to build.
About Tatako
Tatako makes short spoken English lessons for little ones. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
Spanish stays the language of home, and Tatako adds a little English on top. An optional Spanish guide voice explains what to do and switches off anytime. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
The course has 369 first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet, and we start with Spanish-speaking families across the United States.
The role
- Remote and full-time, open to candidates who live in Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee or Arizona
- Fluent English
- You report directly to the founders
By day 90, the founders read one dashboard they trust, word-level progress has its own report, and you can name the step where families most often stop.
What you will do
- Build the funnel from sign-in with Google through the three small steps and the grown-up’s marks to the next visit, with every drop-off in plain view.
- Read retention cohorts by start week, device and time of day, and see whether breakfast, bath time, the car or bedtime becomes a routine.
- Turn the grown-up’s two-minute marks into word-level progress: how words move from New to Repeat more, Understands and Can say, and which of the 369 stay shaky longest.
- Design and read A/B tests on the lesson flow and sign-in: a written hypothesis, a sample size set in advance, guardrails on finished lessons and return visits, and a clear call.
- Shape the tracking plan with the analytics engineer: every event tied to a question it answers, in the browser app today and the App Store and Google Play apps coming soon.
- Set up the dashboards on BigQuery tables you trust, starting with the one the founders open every morning.
- Keep analytics privacy-first: events describe lessons and words, never a child’s identity, no profile of a child is ever built, and ad tracking stays out of the lessons.
What you bring
- 4+ years in product analytics for a consumer app or web product, with SQL you write every day.
- Deep BigQuery skill: nested event data, window functions, partitioned and clustered tables, and SQL that stays fast and cheap.
- Python or R for the work SQL cannot do alone, in notebooks anyone can rerun.
- Rigor in experiment design: power and sample size, guardrail metrics, novelty effects and no peeking before a test is done.
- Dashboards in Tableau or Looker Studio that people actually open, each chart answering one clear question.
- Writing that leads to decisions: a one-page readout with what happened, how sure we are and what to do next.
- Privacy-minded analysis: COPPA basics, only the data a question needs, and aggregates over individuals.
Bonus points
- You have measured one product across web and mobile, where a family moves between devices.
- You have worked with dbt or Apache Airflow on the pipelines behind your own analysis.
- You have analyzed a learning or habit product, where progress matters as much as clicks.
Why you will love it
- Your analysis shapes the course itself: which words, which themes, which steps.
- The metrics are yours to define, from what a weekly habit means to what progress on a word looks like.
- Behind every row is a breakfast, a bath or a bedtime, and you treat the data that way.
How to apply
Meet the octopus at tatako.com, then email [email protected] with your LinkedIn profile or portfolio. Make sure it shows an analysis that changed a product decision.
If your experience matches the role, our team will get in touch to discuss next steps.
