PR Manager, US Hispanic Media (Spanish and English)

On a morning show, a little one names the picture before anyone else can, and the host cheers “¡Eso!” You pitched that segment.

Tatako is hiring its first PR Manager for US Hispanic media to bring the octopus, and the families who play with him, to the shows, papers and podcasts Latino parents follow. Story angles, newsroom relationships and spokespeople ready for live TV are yours to build.

About Tatako

Tatako makes short spoken English lessons for little ones. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.

Spanish stays the language of home, and Tatako adds a little English on top. An optional Spanish guide voice explains what to do and switches off anytime. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.

The course has 369 first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet, and we start with Spanish-speaking families across the United States.

The role

  • Remote and full-time, open to candidates who live in Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee or Arizona
  • Native or near-native Spanish and fluent English
  • You report directly to the founders

By day 90, producers and editors in the city we start with know Tatako by name, a family has played a lesson on air, and every spokesperson has rehearsed on camera.

What you will do

  • Build relationships across Hispanic media in the US: TV morning shows, radio, newspapers, digital media and podcasts, with a different pitch for every producer.
  • Pitch segments that show a lesson at work: a family playing Hear it, say it, Touch it and Name it, the octopus waving on screen, and b-roll ready before the producer asks.
  • Plan the year’s angles: back to school with the words a child hears at preschool, Día del Niño, and Hispanic Heritage Month with families keeping the language of home alive.
  • Open local markets one city at a time: map the stations and community papers, meet the assignment desks, find local families with a story, then take what worked to the next city.
  • Coach every spokesperson for live TV and radio: answers short enough for a live cut, and words every viewer knows, since a car is a carro, a coche or an auto, depending on who is watching.
  • Protect every family: a parent’s written OK before a child goes on air or into print, no last names or schools, and paid segments labeled as FTC rules require.
  • Track results: a short link per segment, coverage logged in Meltwater, and a monthly readout of which cities, shows and angles bring families to app.tatako.com.

What you bring

  • 4+ years in PR or media relations with US Hispanic media at the center, at an agency, a network or a consumer brand.
  • Producers, assignment editors, hosts and podcasters in Hispanic TV, radio and digital media who know you and take your call.
  • A producer’s instincts: you know what a morning-show slot needs, from the guest and the props to the b-roll and the call time.
  • Writing that sounds native in both languages: every pitch, release and talking point written fresh, never carried over from the other.
  • A coach’s patience: you have prepared a nervous parent and a busy executive for the camera, and both sounded like themselves.
  • Care for families’ privacy, a working grasp of COPPA, and the spine to say no when a producer asks for more than a parent agreed to.

Bonus points

  • You have worked in a newsroom or produced segments for a morning show.
  • You have run a satellite or radio media tour in both languages.

Why you will love it

  • A demo made for television: three small steps, and the segment ends with a child saying the word on air.
  • You open each new city: its stations, its papers and the families who become its story.
  • Stories with heart: homes where the language of the family stays at the table and a few new words join it.
