The demo has a nice tune, three voices and a ukulele slightly out of tune. A month later, a whole family sings it on the way to preschool.

Tatako is hiring its first Music Producer to run music for the series, the songs and the brand. You brief composers and songwriters, book the players, shape every arrangement and keep the paperwork clean, so that each song sounds like Tatako and belongs to Tatako.

About Tatako

Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.

The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.

We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.

The role

  • Remote and full-time, open to candidates anywhere in the world
  • Fluent English
  • You report directly to the founders

By day 90, the brand has a written sound guide, a song has gone from brief to master under your hands, and every track in the catalog has its paperwork in order.

What you will do

  • Set the sound of the brand: instruments, tempos, vocal style and the way the sound mark appears.
  • Run each song from idea to master: brief, demo, arrangement, recording, mix and delivery.
  • Book and direct composers, songwriters, musicians and singers, and give feedback that makes the song better.
  • Keep every song different: its own idea, tempo and arrangement, and never an old track under a new picture.
  • Protect the catalog: a signed agreement before anyone starts, a dated record of each version and a log of who wrote and played what.
  • Listen for trouble: no melody that sounds borrowed, no imitation of an artist or a record, no sample without a clear source.
  • Set loudness and delivery standards for every platform, with speech always well above the music.

What you bring

  • 5+ years producing records or music for television, games or children’s media.
  • Hands-on skill in Pro Tools, Logic Pro or Ableton Live, and real arranging on acoustic instruments.
  • Vocal production: you can get a small, friendly performance that is easy to sing back.
  • Practical knowledge of music rights: work made for hire, written transfers and what a distributor will ask for.
  • An ear for simple melody and harmony, and the discipline to remove what a song does not need.
  • Schedule and cost sense: you can run several songs at once across time zones.

Bonus points

  • You have produced music for young children.
  • You have adapted songs into other languages with local singers.

Why you will love it

  • A catalog that starts here, and its sound is yours to set.
  • Music with a purpose: a tune is the surest way to make a new word stay.
  • A brand mascot who sings with great confidence and terrible counting.
