The joke works in English. In Spanish it needs a new word, in Korean a new pause. The octopus has to stay funny in both.
Tatako is hiring its first Localization and Dubbing Producer to carry our series and songs across languages. The picture stays, while the lines, the narrator and the songs change, and a child in each country should feel the series was made for them. The path from an English master to every new language is yours to build.
About Tatako
Tatako is a first-words app for families raising a child with two languages. A lesson takes about five minutes, there is nothing to read, and a small round octopus keeps everyone company. He has eight arms, no socks, and usually loses count at seven.
The language of home stays the language of home. Tatako adds a second one on top, at a toddler’s pace, from the very first words. A guide voice can explain what to do, and you can switch it off whenever you like. Every lesson has three small steps: Hear it, say it. Touch it. Name it. In the last step the picture comes back without the word, and the child names it first.
We started with English: first words and phrases, from “hello” and “mommy” to colors, animals and what the teacher says at preschool. More languages are on the way. Tatako works in the browser on any phone or tablet.
The role
- Remote and full-time, open to candidates anywhere in the world
- Fluent English and at least one other language
- You report directly to the founders
By day 90, a dubbed episode is out and sounds native, the studio has a repeatable path for any new language, and every version follows one shared glossary.
What you will do
- Build the path from a finished master to a new language: adaptation, casting, recording, mix, review and delivery.
- Hire adapters who rewrite instead of translating line by line, and check jokes, rhythm and cultural fit with native speakers.
- Decide with the writer how each version treats the word an episode turns on, so the learning still works.
- Cast local voices with the voice director, and keep each character recognizable from one language to the next.
- Adapt songs so they still rhyme, still scan and still sit on the melody.
- Keep one glossary: character lines, running jokes and the phrases that stay the same from episode to episode.
- Deliver dubbed masters, captions, titles and descriptions for each channel on one shared calendar.
What you bring
- 5+ years producing dubbing or localization for animation, children’s television or streaming.
- A network of adapters, dubbing studios and voice talent in several languages.
- A sharp ear in both of your languages: you can tell a translated line from a native one.
- Technical grip: stems, music and effects tracks, mouth timing, captions and delivery specs.
- Cultural judgment: you know what will not travel before it goes wrong on screen.
- Control of many vendors, dates and versions at once, with a calm tone in every email.
Bonus points
- You have adapted songs for children’s shows.
- You have worked with right-to-left languages such as Arabic.
Why you will love it
- One octopus, many homes, and your work is why he sounds local in each of them.
- Little dialogue and simple mouths: a series designed from day one to travel.
- You get to argue about a single word with people who care about it as much as you do.
